Tips for making your cake smash photo session a success!
Cake Smash tips
Jolly Snaps Kids Photography can supply you with bunting, balloons (air filled) and outfits for your photo shoot. We can also arrange helium balloons for an extra charge (generally $20 for 6). As we order the helium balloons to be delivered to us, please give us plenty of notice to organize them to be delivered in time for the shoot. You are most welcome to bring your own helium balloons if you wish.
If you are bringing your own outfit, please discuss colours prior to the day of the photoshoot so that the bunting and balloons will match with the outfit and cake. Accessories such as headbands don’t always work well for cake smash shoots as they do tend to keep slipping, especially if not the correct size for the child. Please feel free to discuss any issues or concerns with the photographer prior to the day of the shoot.
We are unable to supply the cake for the cake smash, but there are several good cake makers around who can make a cake for a reasonable price. Lots of our clients have also made their own cakes for the cake smash with great success.
Arriving on time
Please ensure that you arrive on time for your photo session, we often have several photo shoots booked on the same day, with just enough time between them to clean away the cake and reset for the next session. If you are running late for your appointment, your session may be cut short to allow time to set up for the next client.
Likewise, please do not arrive super early for your session. We do operate from home and rely on family members to look after our children while we conduct the sessions, and early clients can sometimes arrive before the babysitter while we are still trying to organize our own kids.
Siblings & extended family members
We ask that, where possible, alternative care arrangements are made for siblings who are not being photographed. Older siblings can often distract a younger child, or they will want to go and play with them. Mum or Dad are also unable to give their full attention to the child being photographed and the directions from the photographer if they are also trying to supervise another child.
As it is not always possible to make these alternative arrangements, please bring something along that the older children can play with like a mobile phone or tablet for example.
As Jolly Snaps Kids' Photography does operate from our home, please ensure that children that do attend are supervised at all times.
Where possible we ask that extended family members do not attend the photo session, unless they are needed for care of other children. Although well-meaning, grandparents and other family members often distract small children who become easily stressed and upset when lots of people are talking to them at once.
Be well rested
Be certain not to schedule your photo session around your child’s nap or bedtime. No one wants a grumpy toddler refusing to sit down or crying in all the photos!
Payment
The balance of the invoice is due on the day of the shoot. We do not have Eftpos so all balances need to be paid in cash.
Completed Photos
Please note once the photo shoot has taken place, photos will be posted to you one to two weeks later.
